Muddy Water from Construction Sites

Poorly planned and implemented development can pollute waterbodies by allowing exposed sediment to be washed off by rainfall events; choking wildlife and degrading water quality.

What to do:

  • Take pictures to document evidence if possible

  • Do not trespass onto the site.

  • Note any sediment leaving a construction site onto roads etc.
  • Note areas of a site where severe erosion is occurring.
  • Note any damage or poorly maintained structures such as silt fences, which are supposed to be controlling sediment.
  • Record any changes the sediment has had on nearby waterways.
  • Find more information on: www.getthedirtout.org
