David Lee Simmons

David Lee Simmons is an award-winning journalist with experience in print and digital publications in the newspaper, non-profit and government worlds. David Lee comes to UCR from Atlanta Public Schools' communications office, where he served the past two years as the print and digital writer and launched their social-media initiatives.

His background is in arts journalism, and has been the A&E editor for Creative Loafing in Atlanta and at Gambit Weekly in New Orleans. He's also served as an arts contributor to WABE, the AJC and ArtsCriticATL, with a focus on film, theater and popular culture. Originally from Tallahassee, Fla., David Lee graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor's degree in American Studies, and went on to be a sportswriter for the Tallahassee Democrat. He lives in East Atlanta with his wife, Faith Dawson, son Elijah, and two cats of undetermined temperament.

As communications director, David Lee works with the development team to ensure comprehensive media coverage and community awareness of UCR events and accomplishments, using the traditional media outlets and our social-media tools including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
